Game History
What is the history of the original game?
Our version of the game is based on the rules of the German board game Mensch ärgere Dich nicht®, a dice-based board game whose naming rights are held by Schmidt Spiele GmbH. The game was invented by Josef Friedrich Schmidt in 1907–1908 and went into mass production in 1914.
Today, the game belongs to a family of related board games, including Ludo, Pachisi, Parchís, Petits Chevaux, and Non t'arrabbiare.

How is the user rating calculated?
Every player starts with a rating of 1500. The rating is based on the Elo system, adapted for four players. After each rated game, your result is compared with each opponent’s result, and you gain or lose points depending on where you finished and how strong your opponents were. Beating a higher-rated player earns you more points, while losing to one costs you fewer points. Leaving a game before it ends counts as finishing last, with an extra 25% penalty. Only games in member rooms that last at least 10 turns are rated.
